SK Gaming will have to content themselves with a third-place finish at the Extreme Masters World Championship following a 2-1 defeat of Evil Geniuses.
The match started out on de_inferno, where SK showed the same strength they had demonstrated against fnatic, winning the pistol round, before EG's purchasing attempt in the second round bore fruits as they levelled the match. From then one, the Americans showed some good team play to be up 11-4 at the break, with Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert leading the fragging department.
In the second half, EG got off to a great start to set the score at 15-4, after which SK got their first round as Terrorist, but it was just not enough to stop the Americans, who posted a 16-5 victory.
Both teams then moved on to de_train, where SK managed to start as CT and it surely paid a leading role as the scoreboard showed 12-3 in their favour. As Terrorist, Jimmy "allen" Allen's pistol round paved the way for SK to claim victory on that map with an impressive 16-3 scoreline.
During the last map, de_nuke, the ESL servers were hit by fresh DDoS attacks, which cut off HLTV service half way through the first half, which ended with 9-6 in favour of EG. The Swedes, though, managed to pull off a comeback in the second half to win the map 16-11 and finally break their fourth-place curse in Extreme Masters World Finals.
